The Best Preschool on Long Island

Of course I am biased about Harbor View….all four of my children are graduates.  If you read my post the other day it is evident that Harbor View offers a feeling of HOME that most other schools do not.  I think it is safe for me to easily compare Harbor View and rate Harbor View……as a traveling speech and language pathologist I have the opportunity to see hundreds of preschools across Long Island…..and I of course rate them as soon as I step into the building and the classroom.  So what I have seen out there has been unbelievable and sometimes disgusting and horrifying….so……what have I seen outside of Harbor View….at other preschools??…and….

What you will NEVER see at Harbor View:

~Miserable teachers….the ones that can not even fake it that they do not want to be there…it is obvious they hate their job…not sure how they got it

~Teachers texting and talking on their phones

~Inappropriate dress by staff (by this I mean thongs hanging out-and yes I unfortunately see this frequently…how disgusting!)

~Teachers that say LIBERRY

~More texting and talking on the phone

~Developmental expectations that are riduclous…and then apparent that the teacher is completely unaware of expectations of the little ones

~No outside playground….kids need a place to run and play

What you will see at Harbor View:

~Happy teachers….teachers that offer love and guidance….just like a mommy gives her little one at home…..

~Age appropriate curriculum….following Piaget’s theory of learning through play

~A large classroom that offers lots of space for your little one….sand tables and other sensory activities that are exciting and motivating for your little one

~Bathroom inside of the classroom…this is huge for me….I hate when the little one has to leave the classroom….no need to be potty trained though…Harbor View understands that potty training is TRAINING….it sometimes is a work in progress.

~A playground….a place for the children to run and play…outside!

And….what else does Harbor View offer…that some schools actually say NO to!…….most importantly…well to me… on the list…Harbor View is eager and happy to help the little ones that may have special needs…..they are welcoming to the SEIT teachers that offer additional support to the little one that may be struggling in any area of development.

I recommend Harbor View to lots of the kids I see for speech and language therapy…because I know what the school has to offer…and how much love the little one with special needs will receive from the teachers.

There is a little boy I see right now for speech and language therapy…and he attends Harbor View….I have been with him since he was six weeks old….so he is like my baby….and knowing that he is at Harbor View makes me feel comforted and happy….just like his parents feel.

So….do not forget….Saturday February 11, 2012  from 10-2pm…Harbor View has their open house…..please go meet the amazing teachers…both of whom are dear to me…especially the teacher’s assistant….I have posted about her before….and Harbor View brought us together….and it will keep us intertwined as friends for the rest of our lives.

Now who out there does not want that for their little one??

About Kim

My name is Kim Marino and I have been practicing as a licensed speech and language pathologist since 1993. I work on Long Island providing diagnostic evaluations and services to children from birth to age 21. My experience is vast and am proud to say that I work with children that may present with articulation and phonological concerns, oral motor feeding concerns, Down Syndrome feeding, cognitive rehabilitation, auditory processing delays, receptive language delays, cleft palate feeding and sound development and expressive language delays. Most importantly, I am the mother of four amazing children and am happily married to my childhood sweetheart. I feel blessed to have my four children and so lucky to share this journey in life with my husband. I always had it somewhere in my head that I wanted to develop a blog or a website of some sort so that I could provide families with an additional that parents could help their little ones become a better communicator. And as I was developing this blog....I realized that I also needed to share the stories about my life and my children....and the funny things along the way that help to keep me smiling. Whether you are a working mother or not...finding balance between home, children and life can be a challenge....I hope that my blog helps to bring a smile to your face..and also some tools to help you help your little or big one. I hope you enjoy! Kim
